Theatre Boycott book taken to school libraries
Copies of Florenz Maxwell's book about the Theatre Boycott will now be available in all public school libraries.
Mrs Maxwell, a member of the Progressive Group that organised the boycott of 1959, delivered copies of Girlcott to the Ministry of Education after learning the ministry had purchased some from Bookmart at Brown & Co.
Girlcott, which received second prize in the Code's Burt Award for Caribbean Literature in 2016, is a fictional story about the boycott.
Thousands of copies have already been distributed to schools and libraries across the Caribbean.
Director of Academics Llewellyn Simmons said the Ministry of Education aims to ensure that all public school have copies of books published by Bermudian authors, as a resource for students and teachers. He said Girlcott will be an appropriate resource for social studies and language arts.
