TN Tatem takes centre stage in arts event

Talent showcase: Shangri-La Durham-Thompson

Schoolchildren will launch a series of arts events tonight.

Pupils at TN Tatem Middle School will take centre stage in the first of five events planned as part of Spring into the Arts.

Shangri-La Durham-Thompson, the education officer for the arts and leadership, said that the events were designed to showcase the artistic achievements of pupils.

Dr Durham-Thompson added: “Just like sports days are important for the development of the whole child, so are the arts.

“The event allows students to perform for a wider audience than their school and build confidence.”

She founded the event in 1995 “to highlight the importance of the arts in Bermuda’s schools”.

It ran for about ten years and was restarted in 2017. The events will spotlight pupil performances in music, dance, poetry and drama.

Community artists and visual arts displays will also be incorporated.

Tonight’s event will start at Purvis Primary School, Warwick, at 6pm.
