Work experience week kicks off at Saltus

A yearly work experience week kicks off today for Saltus graduate year one students.

It starts with a webinar hosted by Pauline Dawson, the manager of career education at Brock University in Ontario, Canada, on “how to write the perfect resume and cover letter”.

The series of activities was set up by Tanja Walker, the school’s university support and guidance counsellor, who said students would be able to work with alumni on the island as well as overseas.

Ms Walker said there would be sessions online and in the school to give senior students exposure to jobs in “law enforcement, technology, cybersecurity sales, writing, acting, digital transformation, politics, real estate, medicine, economics and human resources”.

Students will also hear from Kijuan Wilkinson, human resources officer for BF&M insurance, and Kelly Francis, founder and president of Performance Solutions Ltd, an HR company.

The two will give practical tips for job hunting and office etiquette.

Online workshops will cover topics including skills building, developing engaging application letters, interview skills and completing in-depth job research.

Students will get mock interviews on Friday covering questions on their resume, cover letter and job application, with advice and feedback given.

You must be Registered or to post comment or to vote.
