Registration has opened for a programme designed to prepare youngsters for a career in the maritime industry.

People interested in the Endeavour Maritime Career Springboard Programme can learn more about the intensive course during a virtual information session today at 6pm.

The programme, which is held in partnership with the Bermuda College Professional and Career Programme (Pace), will run from January 10 to February 25.

Jennifer Pitcher, the community engagement, development and partnerships manager for Endeavour, said that 2022 marked the programme’s fifth year of operation.

She added: “The Bermuda College Pace team is committed to supporting career and development goals of Bermudians of all ages and we are honoured to work with them in this meaningful initiative towards our shared goal of creating inclusive educational opportunities that positively impact young Bermudians.”

The course will offer a combination of classroom theory lessons that meet the standard of the Royal Yachting Association and practical on-water lessons.

The seven-week programme will allow pupils to reach internationally-recognised qualifications in subjects that include sailing and marine safety.

Applicants must be 16 or older and show a positive attitude, open-mindedness and a willingness to learn and stay committed for the entirety or the programme. No previous sailing experience is necessary.

Karen Smith, the Pace programme co-ordinator, said: “Bermuda College is extremely pleased to continue this successful partnership with Endeavour.

“Our mission is transforming lives through innovative education.

“This programme provides a firm foundation for a promising career in the maritime industry both locally and internationally.”

Applicants must submit a resume and cover letter by 5pm on November 25.

Candidates are urged to apply as soon as possible as spaces are limited. Shortlisted applicants will be invited to an interview.
