The Ministry of Education yesterday issued a reminder to parents and students to preregister for back-to-school Covid-19 testing.

Negative results must be submitted by January 5 to allow for in-school learning. Results for those testing privately are required to be submitted by January 4.

In a statement, Diallo Rabain, the Minister of Education said: “The response from teachers and students who have already registered for their return to school tests is positive. Thus far, we have 362 educators and 2,080 students registered for testing.

“We appreciate the educators’ and parents' support. They are working to ensure that both teachers and students are tested and cleared for entry back to school on January 5. Thank you for working with us as I am sure we all desire for our children to be back in school for in-class learning."

However, Mr Rabain said that some staff and students had not yet registered and encouraged them to do so as soon as possible.

He added: “While I certainly recognise that the testing dates fall on New Year’s Day weekend and the following Monday, I ask those that have yet to register to sign up as soon as possible.

“As announced last week, we have provided additional testing dates and times to allow teachers and students adequate time to get the required testing to return to in-school learning.”

A testing schedule for Covid-19 was drawn up for the return to public schools.

Staff and pupils must get a clear PCR test dated within three days of going back to the classroom.

On January 1, tests will be offered for teachers and staff only at the Bermuda College Cafeteria from 10am to 3pm and the Bull’s Head Car Park from 2pm to 4pm.

Student testing is available on January 2 at the Bermuda College Cafeteria from 10am to 4pm and the Bull’s Head Car Park from noon to 3pm.

That same day, CedarBridge Academy staff and students can self-test from 1pm to 3pm.

Student testing is offered again on January 3 at the Bermuda College Cafeteria from 10am to 4pm and Bull’s Head Car Park from 2pm to 4pm, and on January 4 at the Bermuda College Cafeteria from 10am to noon.

Testing for Dame Marjorie Bean Hope Academy pupils will be offered at the school on January 4 from 1pm to 2pm.
