Bermuda Institute to move to remote teaching after coronavirus surge

Questions about remote learning at the Bermuda Institute can be directed to principal Wayne Edwards (File photograph)

Pupils at a private school will move to remote learning tomorrow after a “surge” in coronavirus cases.

A spokeswoman for the Bermuda Institute said that deep cleaning would be carried out before the school reopened in two weeks.

She added: “This closure, though unwelcome, is due to a strain on staffing resources caused by the surge of the Omicron variant on our campus and the high number of student absences.

“We are committed to ensure that regular instruction continues as scheduled for all students.

“The transition to remote learning will be a smooth one for us as our teachers are fully prepared to do so.

“Through it all, the health and safety of our students as well as that of our teachers remain our top priority.

“It is our hope that we will be able to return to in-person quickly.”

The spokeswoman for the Southampton school said remote learning was expected to be in force “for two weeks until January 31”.

For more information, contact Wayne Edwards, the principal, on 238-1566 or by e-mail at wedwards@bermudainstiute.bm.
