High school pupils inspired others when they expressed themselves with confidence at an annual pageant, the event’s founder said.

Nine young people were in the running for the titles of Mr and Miss CedarBridge Academy earlier this month.

The contenders were Logan Farrell, Dekada Gilbert, Elmico Hayward-DeShields, Michael Ray, Skye Charles, Shenice Maylor, Eliana Pinardi, Rihanna Reddicks, and Keishay Smith.

Mr Hayward-DeShields and Ms Smith, both 17, were crowned Mr and Miss CBA.

Ms Smith said later that the title demonstrated her ability to succeed.

She added: “I have accomplished the goals I set for myself, no matter how big or small.

“It also means my light can shine brighter now, becoming a role model for people who don’t think they can do it.”

Dean Foggo, the pageant’s founder, said: “Witnessing our students confidently express themselves was truly inspiring, reflecting the essence of the theme — Unapologetically You.

“Congratulations to all participants, and a special shout out to our winners, Miss CedarBridge Keishay Smith and Mr CedarBridge Elmico Hayward-DeShields.”
