BZS summer camp changes registration process

A marine science camp will shift its selection process to allow for more youngsters to join.

The Bermuda Zoological Society’s Aqua Camps will use a lottery system to select children for the 2024 camp instead of their previous “first come, first served” model.

Stephanie Toro, the education officer for BZS, said the change was made based on feedback from parents, who found the previous framework “stressful, if not impossible” to co-ordinate with their busy schedules.

She added: “The lottery will create more equitable access to registration, allow more time for families to decide on camp dates, and give new campers and previously wait-listed campers equal ability to register.

“We’re excited about the changes we’ve made to Aqua Camp registration, and we hope they reduce the stress that previously surrounded Aqua Camp registration.

“We also look forward to hearing your feedback on the new lottery system.”

Aqua Camp will also include more spaces to meet the popularity and high demand for its courses.

Registration for the lottery will open on March 15 and close on March 25. Parents and guardians will be notified of their child’s selection by April 9.

BZS memberships must be up to date to register their children for Aqua Camp.

A full schedule for the Aqua Camps and the descriptions of the camps can be found on Bermuda Aquarium, Museum & Zoo’s website.

Anyone with questions surrounding camp activities should contact Hollyanne Shirley, the education administrator, at edadmin@bzs.bm with “Aqua Camp Query” in the subject line.

They can also call Ms Shirley on 293-2727 ext 2181.
