Minister celebrates success of young spellers
Crystal Caesar, the Minister of Education, formally recognised the winners of the Verbal Victory Spelling Bee for their composure and dedication.
Ms Caesar met with Hunter Pewter of Somersfield Academy, who won the March 8 competition, along with Saltus student Eli Oduntan and George Morris from Dellwood Middle School, who came second and third respectively.
She said: “The finalists exemplified tremendous composure, confidence and intellectual curiosity. Their performances reflect not only their hard work but also the quality of instruction and encouragement they receive both at school and at home.”
She emphasised the value of competitions such as the spelling bee in fostering strong literacy skills and a lifelong love of learning.
Vivlyn Cooper, trustee of the spelling bee, added that the event helps students develop confidence, sharpen communication skills and discover their own potential.
Mrs Cooper added: “As we have seen, it also creates lasting friendships and a strong sense of community. The committee offers heartfelt congratulations to our remarkable spellers who demonstrated focus, courage and a true love for language.”
