Chatmore International School is using an artificial intelligence-based assessment, teaching and learning platform to provide tailored care for its students.

The school has rolled out the Century platform and claims to be the first educational institution on the island to do so.

It said the move marked a significant step forward in personalised education in Bermuda.

After a successful pilot programme, Chatmore has fully implemented the platform across Years 2 to 11, driven not only by strong academic outcomes but also by clear student demand.

Britanni Butterworth, Chatmore’s head of school, said: “Our decision to introduce Century reflects our commitment to staying at the forefront of educational innovation.

“Being the first school in Bermuda to implement this platform is something we are incredibly proud of, not just because of the technology itself, but because of the impact it is already having on our students.

“Seeing their enthusiasm, independence and growing confidence in learning has been truly inspiring.

“Century is enabling us to deliver even further on our promise of personalised education in a way that is both meaningful and sustainable for our entire school community.

“It’s important to note that this does not replace our in-class learning. Instead, it helps teachers and learners get what they need and to meaningfully close gaps in the right way for each student using the educators’ expertise and the power of AI and Century.

“We’re excited to move this partnership forwards.”

Century, which is used by educational institutions in more than 70 countries, was developed by an award-winning team of teachers, neuroscientists and technologists.

It claims to be helping to improve student outcomes while reducing teacher workloads.

It’s website said: “Together, we have combined the latest research in learning science, artificial intelligence and neuroscience to ensure Century is underpinned by evidence-based scientific and pedagogical techniques.”

Chatmore has been exploring ways to use technology for a more personalised approach to education to cater for its many levels of student ability and mixed-age classes.

The school said that teachers sought a solution that could provide “tailored learning pathways, real-time feedback and actionable insights without increasing workload”.

A school spokeswoman said: “The Century AI learning platform was introduced face to face through Chatmore’s “No School is an Island” conference earlier in the year, which was supported by the Council of British International Schools and which Chatmore students attended.

“Chatmore then took part in a structured pilot. The platform uses AI to assess each learner’s strengths, gaps and progress, creating personalised learning journeys across maths, science and English.

“During the pilot phase, students engaged with the platform both in school and at home.

“Teachers monitored progress through detailed analytics dashboards, allowing them to intervene more effectively and provide targeted support.

“What stood out most during the trial was the level of student engagement. Learners quickly adapted to the platform and began using it independently to reinforce their understanding and get ahead in their studies.”

Student feedback was overwhelmingly positive, the school said. Many reported feeling more confident in their learning and appreciated the ability to work at their own pace.

Sandrine McGlashin, a secondary teacher at Chatmore, said: “We primarily use it for home learning and short sessions in class, which is a great complement to our in-person and interactive learning approach.

“Our students understood the impact that this platform was making on their learning and saw how their learning could be even more personalised with the power of AI.”

The school said that as a result of implementation, there was increased student engagement and independent learning, improved confidence in core subject areas and more efficient, data-informed teaching strategies.

Students wanted use of the platform to continue.

Chatmore plans to expand usage and embed Century consistently into its teaching and learning practices.

The school is also exploring opportunities to integrate Century further into its curriculum planning and assessment strategies.

The spokeswoman added: “By becoming the first school in Bermuda to adopt Century’s AI learning platform, Chatmore International School is setting a new benchmark for innovation in education.

“The combination of measurable academic benefits and genuine student enthusiasm underscores the platform’s value not just as a tool but as a catalyst for more personalised, engaging learning experiences.”
