Google invests in science and technology tools for BZS
Tech giant Google has partnered with the Bermuda Zoological Society in an investment to support the expansion of its science and technology-enabled learning.
The BZS is enhancing its education programmes thanks to the introduction of 25 new tablets, six drones, underwater cameras, classroom monocular microscopes and projection technology — allowing students to engage more deeply in science, technology and emerging fields such as artificial intelligence.
Students are already using these tools during field investigations, data collection and hands-on learning activities through the society’s signature Living Classroom, where learning extends into Bermuda’s natural environments.
The tablets support real-time research and documentation, while drones introduce students to aerial observation, environmental monitoring and technology-driven inquiry.
In addition, the use of tablets for data collection helps the BZS to gather insights across its 28 micro forest sites, including identifying species, tracking plant growth, measuring land coverage and monitoring soil health.
This integration of technology aims to enhance student learning and contribute meaningful environmental data to support conservation efforts.
“This initiative with Google represents a meaningful investment in Bermuda’s future,” Philippe Bacon, the BZS president, said.
“By integrating technology such as tablets and drones into our programmes, we are equipping students with the skills and curiosity needed to explore science and innovation in real-world settings.”
Google’s support aims to contribute to enhancements to existing programmes, including improved infrastructure and resources that allow the BZS to scale its impact and reach to more students across the island.
A Google spokesman said: “We are pleased to work together with the BZS in support of our shared commitment to education, conservation and community.
“We are proud to play a role in inspiring and supporting the next generation of environmental stewards and innovators in Bermuda.”
