Rabain hails student work at Steam Academy
The Department of Education branded its latest Steam Academy summer programme a success, offering students hands-on learning opportunities in science, technology, engineering, art and maths.
The programme, which concluded on August 7, had primary students test their creativity and practical thinking through activities including woodwork, soldering and games.
It included a new, dedicated programme for older students, aged between 13 and 15, focused on mathematics, the trades, electrical engineering and career orientation.
The senior programme came with visits to Tynes Bay, Greenlight, The Reefs Hotel, Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service, Dolphin Quest, Bermuda Broadcasting Company, CariGenetics and the Bermuda Institute of Ocean Sciences, offering insight into a variety of career options.
Diallo Rabain, the Minister of Education, praised students’ creativity and skills.
He added: “Senior students explained that the career orientation and site visits provided great insight into how businesses and operations are managed.
“The feedback for the students was very encouraging, and we look forward to offering the programme, which is open to all island school students, next year.”
