Organisers of a back-to-school event hope to give out 200 backpacks at a Southampton playground this month.

The Mirrors Programme has partnered with the Bermuda Community Outreach Foundation to organise the third Back-to-School giveaway at Death Valley Playground on August 30.

A statement said: “Since launching in 2024, the giveaway has distributed 384 backpacks to Bermuda's students.

“This year's event will see that total increase to more than 600 backpacks distributed, representing another significant investment in Bermuda's young people and their families.”

It added that the event will also feature “community activities, refreshments and entertainment designed to celebrate the beginning of another successful school year”.

Kimberley Jackson, the manager of the Mirrors Programme, said: “Preparing students for success extends far beyond providing school supplies. It is about investing in confidence, creating opportunity and demonstrating to young people that their community believes in them.

“We are excited to continue building on the success of this initiative and look forward to welcoming families for another memorable community event.”

Parents and guardians can fill out a jotform link to reserve a backpack in advance. Registration is strongly encouraged and backpacks are available while supplies last.
