A Bermudian-based research publication is looking for experts to review works for its second edition.

The Bermuda Journal of Academic Research invited people well-versed in economics, law, psychology and English literature to join its peer review team.

A statement said peer reviewers can assess submissions for “rigour, originality and clarity and provide constructive feedback to authors before publication”.

Kyaida Lanthier, a co-chief editor of the journal, said: “Peer review is what gives published research its credibility.

“We are looking for people who care about the quality and integrity of research coming out of Bermuda and who want to play a meaningful role in shaping its future.”

Peer reviewers can be based in Bermuda or overseas, do not need to have an academic post and typically review between one and three manuscripts over November and December.

The journal features peer-reviewed work and submissions from aspiring researchers that are reviewed and edited by the BJAR editorial team.

The inaugural edition of the journal, published in March, had one peer-reviewed submission written by Ryan Robinson Perinchief, who became the national security minister.

His research explored how cannabis prohibition disproportionately impacts minority communities and a made a case for reform.

Aspiring research pieces in the publication highlighted how labour supply shock affects agricultural households, the economic costs of trade conflicts, Zambia’s 2020 debt default, and gender, socio-economic status and violence in partition narratives.

Interested peer reviewers must complete a form via bermudajournal.org or Google Forms by October 15. All research for the upcoming second edition must be submitted by this date.
