Public school students have been encouraged to sign up for an programme designed to strengthen public speaking, research, critical thinking, active listening and teamwork skills.

Registration is open to pupils aged 10 to 17 for the 2026-27 Debate Challenge.

Organised by the Ministry of Education, in partnership with Dynamic Debaters and the Mirrors Programme, the scheme will consist of weekly training sessions from October to January, with preliminary rounds kicking off in February.

Diallo Rabain, the Minister of Education, said: “The Debate Challenge provides young people with a valuable platform to build confidence, express their ideas, construct persuasive arguments and engage respectfully with differing perspectives.

“Through structured training and friendly competition, participants will develop essential communication and leadership skills that will benefit them both inside and outside the classroom.”

Interested students can obtain the registration flyer from their school principal or fill it out online. Completed forms should be submitted by October 16.
