A mural has been created by Bermudian creative studio Uber Super Duper to highlight the 30th anniversary of the St George’s Original Dancerettes.

Carla Watson, director of the dance group, said that the team “loved” the depiction.

The vibrant 500sq ft artwork featuring some of the members of the dance group was pasted onto the wall of St George’s Community Centre.

Ms Watson said: “I feel very honoured for this gift.

“It is well deserved — 30 years is a milestone. It’s actually more than 30 years but because of Covid, things came to a standstill in 2020.

“We are trying to resume practice after January. The girls are very excited and anxious to get together for a photograph in front of the mural.”

Sami Lill, Uber Super Duper’s creative director, said: “Working with the great team at the St George’s Community Centre, we agreed on a prominent external wall of the dance studio that would offer suitable impact and give us a chance to work with vivid colour and large scale to create a strong graphic impression.

“With such a huge surface we opted for a digital approach — creating layered vector artwork that was vinyl printed, laminated and carefully applied by hand. The team at Bermuda Press were integral with printing and installation.”

Mr Lill says the mural took several days to complete, adding: “We’re always happy to work with murals as a medium and know there is considerable scope to create more of these around Bermuda.

“As semi-permanent installations they can offer long-term impact and help build community spirit.”
