Students, alumni and supporters of The Berkeley Institute celebrated the school’s 125th anniversary with a tea and fashion show fundraiser yesterday.

The Dress Code Runway Show raised money for the Berkeley Educational Society and featured outfits by locally and internationally recognised designers, all alumni of the school.

The designers were Channing Dill, Desiree Riley, Omejae Goater, Kennette Burgess and Rochelle Minors.

The Berkeley Educational Society, which was vital to the school’s formation in 1897, raises money for the school.

Maxine Esdaille, who helped organise the events, said the full amount raised was still being counted.

Students and alumni of the school, including politicians Lindsay Simmons, Kim Swan and Tinée Furbert, the Minister of Social Development and Seniors, modelled hats and clothing during the show.

Ms Esdaille liked all the outfits featured, but one, designed by Ms Burgess, stood out to her.

She said: “Ms Burgess made a very special outfit celebrating the 125th anniversary, which featured the school colours on a woman’s pantsuit.”

Ms Esdaille has received very positive feedback from people who attended.

She said: “I even got a call from a mother who was blown away with how well the show went.”

She thanked GET security, the Brown-Darrell Clinic and Belvin’s Variety for sponsoring the show and well as the many volunteers who donated their time to make the show a success.
