A circus featuring trapeze artists, acrobats and stunt performers will be coming to Bermuda this autumn.

Tuffy Nicholas, owner and producer of Super American Circus, told members of the Hamilton Rotary Club yesterday about his plans to bring between ten and 14 performers to the island in September or October as a test run.

The company runs a full-time circus in Guam and seasonal ones in the Philippines, Florida and throughout Hawaii.

Mr Nicholas said: “Our speciality is islands and hard to get to places.

“These types of destinations, that not many circuses go to. So for those reasons, we can do it.”

This is why he wants to bring the circus to Bermuda.

“We are looking for a few [local] musicians and a singer, maybe someone very famous here would be great,” he added.

The dates and location for the event have not yet been confirmed.

The circus partnered with the Hamilton Rotary Club to donate to a charity while in Bermuda.

Mr Nicholas told Rotarians: “We will be giving some money back, we do not know how much that will be yet … but I would much rather be partners with you guys and make some money for us and for charity.”

Rick Richardson, president of the Hamilton Rotary Club, said this fundraising partnership would benefit Gina Spence Productions’ Champions programme, which supports children and families who have lost loved ones to gun violence.

Mr Nicholas, who has been producing circuses for decades, encouraged everyone to attend the show, which would be fun for the entire family, when it comes to the island.
