A documentary that explores the history and experiences of Black-owned businesses and entrepreneurs across the island is available to watch online.

The Department of Culture said that Black Businesses in Bermuda: Trials, Tribulations, Triumphs features established and newer ventures while “examining the resilience and evolution of Black enterprise” on the island.

Produced by Marq Rodriguez with research and support from Meredith Ebbin, the film previewed in July and features Marico Thomas, president of the Bermuda Chamber of Commerce, Donna Pearman and Tamara Richardson, cofounder and chief executive of the People’s Pharmacy, economist Craig Simmons and others.

Owen Darrell, the Minister of Tourism, Transport, Culture and Sport, said: “Black businesses have played an important role in shaping Bermuda’s economic, social and cultural landscape.

“This documentary allows us to recognise the determination and achievements of generations of Black entrepreneurs, while ensuring that these important stories are preserved and shared with future generations.”
