Greenrock aims to boost environmental awareness with ‘acts of green’ on Earth Day

Greenrock is calling for the public to pledge an “act of green” in celebration of Earth Day.The organisation will join groups around the world to mark Earth Day 2012 on April 22.That effort will see the creation of an online calender where individuals and groups can place environmental events.“The type of activity communities can get involved with covers a huge range, with the only requirement being that it’s a green event,’” a Greenrock spokeswoman said.“Activities already registered in other countries include everything from arranging a litter collection to screening an environmentally aware film.“If you’re doing something as an individual — maybe switching to energy-saving light bulbs or buying more local food — register your ‘act of green’ because together they all make a difference and encourage more people to think about what they can do to contribute,” the spokeswoman added.Greenrock has been working with the Bermuda National Trust on an Earth Day video competition. It is also partnering with Alternative Energy Systems to install a water bottle filling “hydration station” in Hamilton. The organisation also co-hosted a visit by Captain Charles Moore who gave a talk about plastic pollution in the ocean.Useful website: www.greenrock.org/earthday.
