Watford Sports Club is seeking permission to reinforce the coastline near its Sandys headquarters.According to a planning application, the move is aimed at to protecting the area from erosion while cleaning up the coastline.A design statement included in the application states: “Membership would like to protect the foreshore from erosion and enhance the beach facilities which is the specific purpose of this application.“The existing foreshore is being eroded away with areas of rockfalls and debris littering the beach and the rocks below. It is in need of foreshore protection that will retain and enhance its natural appearance.“There is an imminent need to armour the foreshore in order to protect the property and the infrastructure, including Mangrove Bay Road itself.”The application proposes using fallen rocks already on the site to build the protective wall, which would feature pockets for native species and nesting areas for longtails.The planning application also seeks permission to install two recycled buildings from 9 Beaches to serve as a club house and a small club accommodation.The application states that the structures will be reconstructed to better reflect traditional Bermuda buildings. While the structural support for the buildings will be recycled, the buildings will have new Bermuda roofs and solid plaster and painted exteriors, along with welcoming arms access stairs and top-hung shutters.The full application is available for public viewing at the Department of Planning headquarters in the Dame Lois Browne-Evans building.
