Bernard Park has been decorated with brightly coloured waste bins with help from schoolchildren and Butterfield Bank employees.

Staff from the bank worked alongside students from Impact Mentoring Academy, on the Keep Bermuda Beautiful's Artful Bins project.

Anne Hyde, the executive director at KBB, said: “It may seem crazy to get excited about waste bins, but I do!

“Even people who tell me they can't paint, end up having a good time, and the finished bins look amazing.”

Ms Hyde said that the extra 15 bins would also come in handy for the Department of Youth, Sport and Recreation, which had said it needed more bins for sports fields. The bins were donated by Rocon, and Pembroke Paint provided painting supplies.

A Butterfield Bank spokesman explained: “Correctly disposing of litter is critical to keeping our parks, beaches and ocean clean, healthy and safe, for us and the wildlife, that share them.

“That's why our employees are participating in a host of activities and challenges, designed to help reduce our impact on the environment.

“Butterfield colleagues had a fantastic time with KBB's Artful Bins project.

“Teaming up with the enthusiastic young men from Impact Mentoring Academy, allowed us to work together, to showcase our artistic skills, while creating much needed trash cans for the park.”
