Island’s top equestrians return for BEF show

Several of the Island’s overseas professional riders will showcase their talents during this weekend’s Bermuda Equestrian Federation (BEF) Welcome Home Show at the Botanical Gardens.Patrick Nisbett, Jill Terceira, Ki Minors and Raishun Burch will all be returning home to compete. Each professional rider will lead a team of local juniors and adults in a round of show jumping competition.Nisbett and Terceira represented Bermuda at this year’s Pan Am Games in Mexico while Minors is currently based in Florida, where he has been competing, training and selling horses on the East Coast.University student Burch is presently studying in the UK but is regularly based in Germany, competing internationally.Burch said he was looking forward to competing with the other junior riders and giving something back to the local equestrian community.“I hope it will boost more interest and encourage the juniors so that they can also compete away successfully with hard work and dedication,” he added.2011 Pan Am Games qualifier, Annabelle Collins who competes in Europe, has also agreed to return to the Island for this weekend’s event to put on a dressage demonstration.The Welcome Home Show will take place in the Main Show Jumping Ring of the Botanical Gardens, with opening ceremonies to commence tomorrow at 10am. The show will then continue on Sunday with proceedings to get underway at 9am.Admission is $5 at the gate with funds raised from the event to assist BEF in their efforts for the 2012 London Olympics as well as for the BEF Junior Fund, which will allow a promising young rider to train overseas next summer.
