Nesbitt to ride at world cup event

China bound: Nesbitt will compete in Beijing later this month

Patrick Nesbitt, the Bermudian equestrian, has been invited to compete at the Longines FEI World Cup Jumping China League in Beijing.

Nisbett, who competed at the same event in 2012 when he placed third in the final, will compete alongside some top show jumpers, including Ben Maher, a London Olympic team gold medal-winner, Sergio Alvarez Moya, the number one female in Britain and ranked 37th in the world and Cameron Hanley who finished fourth in the 2009 European Championships.

The event also has another Bermuda connection as the organiser, Rai Burch, is a Bermudian. Burch works for En Garde Marketing, a German Marketing company that hosts events worldwide.

The Longines FEI World Cup Jumping China League is the league for the Chinese riders to qualify for the World Cup final each year. Chinese equestrianism is still developing and to improve the level of sport foreign riders are invited to compete.

In previous years the event has seen several European, Olympic and world champions competing, including Scott Brash, the London Olympic team gold medal-winner, Maher and Maikel van der Vleuten, the London Olympic team silver and World Equestrian Games team silver medal-winner.
