IC’s Overextended shows form

Strong season: Tyler Lopes

IC’s Overextended equalled its own season record during the second round of Best Three qualifiers at the Bermuda Equestrian Centre on Remembrance Day.

The Whited Family’s mare ran a 1:03/3 in the Best Three four and five-year-old division with the sizzling hot Tyler Lopes in the bike.

Lopes posted the same time with same pony during the first round of Best Three qualifiers last month at Vesey Street.

The grandson of former Driving Horse and Pony Club president David Lopes also posted the second fastest time of 1:04/1 with Arnold Manders’s gelding Cherokee’s Ironman, last season’s top pony at the race track.

Third fastest time was achieved by Ryan Burrows at the helm of Inwood Stables’ Simsfield Hardtimes competing in the Best Three four and five-year-old division.

Nick DeCosta, also a former DHPC president, continued his impressive return to the local harness racing scene by guiding Inwood Stables’ 11-year-old gelding Brona’s Mike to victory in the Best Three aged division.

The experienced driver has resumed racing domestically after spending the past five years showjumping and harness racing in the United States.

No driver had made more trips to victory lane this season than Lopes and that trend continued as the talented driver racked up four victories with three different ponies, including his own two-year-old filly Google Me.

Andrea Westerfield was the second best driver with three victories on two different ponies while Andy Stoneham, the DHPC vice president, Zinho Cooper and Damian Tucker had two each.

The Best Three Series is held over three qualifying race days with the top four ponies in the four and five-year-old and aged divisions advancing to the final dash to be held in January.

The ponies accumulate points according to their finishing positions in every heat for the qualifying dashes.
