Competition Two of the FEI Jumping World Challenge got under way at the National Equestrian Centre at the weekend.In the category A division (1.20 — 1.30 metres) Kayla Bardgett and her horse Causing Chaos leapt into first place with a clear round in a time of 57.77sec. Philip Correia riding Hornelli incurred 12 penalties to claim the second place. Continuing their winning streak in the Category B division (1.10 — 1.20) was Correa riding Junior Cardento. This team rode a clear round in a time of 54.93. Jaylynn Hines and Carolina Gold also rode a clear round in a time of 68.45 to secure second place. In the Category C division (1.00 — 1.10), Abby Bardgett, the mother of Kayla, rode an exciting clear round in what was to be the fastest time of the day of 52.04 to clinch first place. In second place was Correia and Bon Voyage, who also rode a clear round but in a slightly slower time of 52.20. Only the results of the best two of the three competitions per category count towards the final rankings of the FEI Jumping World Challenge.The third and final competition that comprises this year’s FEI Jumping World Challenge will take place on 29 March at the National Equestrian Centre. With such competitive scores from all three height divisions, the final competition should prove to be exciting as riders battle for the coveted blue ribbons.Judging the competition on Saturday was president of the Ground Judge FEI Judge Judy Hagen and Ground Jury Member FEI Judge Pam Mahoney, both of Bermuda. The FEI Jumping World Challenge enables local riders an opportunity to compete in an international arena setting without having to travel overseas. Riders from ten different geographical zones compete over the same jumping courses designed by a FEI appointed course designer. Christoph Johnen, of Germany, designed this year’s course.
