St George’s prepares for annual onion drop

The Town of St George is set to ring in 2024 with music, activities and the annual onion drop at midnight.

The Corporation of St George announced in a statement that this year’s celebration will be hosted by Nadanja Bailey with live music by the Wallstreet Band.

Quinell Francis, Mayor of St George, said: “Preparing for our annual holiday events has been a delightful experience.

“This year, we collaborated with our community partner, the Bermuda National Trust, for their historical open homes event.

“In addition, our staff illuminated the entire town from York Street to the tip of Ordnance Island, organised 'Santa’s Coming to Town,' and is now ready for the New Year's Eve Celebration, where the entire town will unite.”

Ms Francis added that this year’s event will be funded through the Unesco Grants programme to help showcase the historic town as a unique destination.

In addition to live music and entertainment, the event will include a Fun Zone for families and an array of local vendors offering toys, treats and face painting.

A statement from the Corporation said: “Ashley’s Lemonade, Bermuda Cupcake Company, Dandy Donuts, Food Hub, Hot Dog Delight and Jazzy Treats will be serving during the evening, accompanied by Paintz by Z with face painting and body art, Toy Express selling light-up toys and fun castles for the kids.

“Local restaurants will also be open for meal and adult beverage services, and we encourage you to book in advance.”

Festivities are scheduled to start at 8.30pm with Ms Francis delivering opening comments at 9pm.

Live music will continue after the annual midnight onion drop, with festivities ending at around 1am.
