The threat of rain failed to deter the Pembroke community from coming together on Saturday afternoon for the youth edition of Cultural Connect.

The event at Pig’s Field kicked off shortly after a portion of The Glebe Road nearby was renamed Hendrickson’s Way in tribute to the Hendrickson family, fixtures of the area and of Gombey culture.

Families enjoyed a performance by H & H Gombeys along with upbeat music and free food while children enjoyed the playground.

Kiari Talbot said that she was thankful that the rain and lightning pulled back before the event kicked off, leaving attendees with a sunny afternoon.

She added: “It’s always great to have a chance to celebrate our community and the people that make our community what it is.”
