Bermuda women’s squad named for Grenada showdown
The Bermuda senior women’s squad has been announced for the game against Grenada this week.
Bermuda sit fourth in group C of the Concacaf Women’s Championship qualifiers, with three points from three games after beating Cayman Islands and losing to Costa Rica and Guadeloupe.
The Lady Gombey Warriors close out their campaign at Flora Duffy Stadium on Saturday at 7pm against Grenada, who leapfrogged Bermuda on goal difference after securing a 3-1 win over Cayman Islands on Tuesday. They had earlier lost 6-0 to Guadeloupe and 2-1 to Costa Rica.
Bermuda head coach Naquita Robinson is hopeful of ending the competition on a winning note in front of passionate home support this weekend.
“I’m looking forward to having the girls back on the field,” Robinson said.
“They are all ready to go in this final match. As we close this window, we will be looking to end on a high note with a victory.”
Some of the changes from the team that played against Costa Rica include K’Xiyae Gibbons being called up among the goalkeepers.
Gibbons was included with Dandy Stars team-mate Shantia Berkeley, Saleh Dillard, from the University of North Carolina, and K’Shaela Burch Waldron, of Sutton United in England.
Striker Nia Christopher, who joined Icelandic club Fimleikafélag Hafnarfjarðar (Gymnastics Association) last month, is missing as is the retired Jaden Masters.
Marli Butterfield, who plays for Delaware State University, is another player missing from the side that faced Costa Rica.
