Former national coach Roderick “Roddy“ Burchall is among five distinguished recipients to be awarded Bermuda Football Association’s highest distinction during its end of season awards ceremony at the Pier Six tomorrow.

Burchall will be awarded the BFA’s Order of Merit along with the late referee Glynn Gilbert; former Southampton Rangers defender Ryan Belboda; St David’s youth programme co-ordinator and under-11 girls coach Alshia Lugo; and former North Village secretary and present director of netball Stacy Grant.

Burchall, who also coached now-defunct Centaurs United, initially served as an assistant to national coach Carlton “Pepe” Dill before taking over for a brief stint.

He is perhaps best known for leading the national team to a famous 2-1 victory over regional powerhouse Mexico in an Olympic qualifier at the former National Stadium in 1987.

The BFA will also honour 2026 Legends Albert Caisey (Boulevard); Earl Richardson (Devonshire Colts and Dandy Town); Elliott Jennings (North Village); Wendell Furbert (Centaurs United); and Clevie Wade (Devonshire Colts, Vasco da Gama, PHC, Dandy Town and St George’s Colts), who scored the winner in Bermuda’s 2-1 triumph against Mexico in the 1987 Olympic qualifier on home soil.

The awards ceremony will celebrate the outstanding achievements of Bermuda’s football community across all levels of the game.

Following an exciting year for both international and domestic football, the BFA will recognise the contributions and performances of local players, coaches, and teams—male and female, youth and senior—who have energised the sport throughout the season.

The day’s proceedings will begin with the Youth Awards at 1pm, with honours to be presented to the Defensive Player of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year, Leading Goalscorer, Most Valuable Player and Coach of the Year.

The celebration will conclude in the evening with the Senior Awards ceremony, staring at 7.30pm.

Awards will include Fair Play Team, Young Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Goalkeeper of the Year, Leading Goalscorer, Most Valuable Player and Coach of the Year.

In addition, league prize money will be distributed to the top six teams in the Premier Division, along with recognition of promoted teams (Somerset Trojans and Robin Hood) from the First Division.
