Curly’s Walking Football concluded its first official league season with a championship Cup final at Bermuda College last Saturday.

All-Stars competed against Bermuda College for the Leroy “Curly Joe” Wilson Cup, while Touring and Walking Warriors faced off for third place.

Led by football veteran, Leroy “Curly Joe” Wilson, the league launched in March and has seen the four teams compete against one another in games every Saturday morning.

Although Walking Warriors had the strongest performance throughout the league, earning the Polaris Cup, the league runner-up, the All-Stars, made history as the first team to win the Leroy “Curly Joe” Wilson Cup with a 6-4 victory against Bermuda College. Touring clinched the 3rd place spot against Walking Warriors.

Craig Tyrrell, captain of the All-Stars, had a stellar performance, earning MVP for the Cup Tournament. Dr David Annan of Bermuda College scored eight goals across three games to secure his place as the top goalscorer of the tournament, while Troy Ashby of Bermuda College earned MVP Goalkeeper.

“The league has been very meaningful for the players and great fun for spectators,” Wilson said.

“There was a vocal cheering section at the final matches to support the teams. We have seen the players’ skills and confidence grow as the season has progressed and we are working up to our goal of sending a national team to the 2027 FIFWA Walking Football World Nations Cup.

“We saw several standout performances throughout the league, including the league MVP Andrew Bento, who led the Walking Warriors to winning the Polaris Cup and received the Golden Boot Award for the most goals in the league. Troy Ashby of Bermuda College won the league MVP Goalkeeper award, and All-Stars goalkeeper Michelle Gibbons also earned an award for being the only female goalkeeper.
