The National Academy Under-17 team secured a spot in the semi-finals of the Bermuda Triangle Cup after defeating Somerset Trojans 3-0 at Flora Duffy Field on Wednesday.

Goals from Cayden Bartley-Waldron, Deacon Wade and Chaz Edmead resulted in Aaron Denkins’s side joining Future Pro Academy as the top two teams from group A.

With little rest in between matches, Denkins rotated some of the players who featured in the 2-2 draw with Future Pro on Monday.

“We made six changes from the first game because four games in seven days can take its toll on the players,” the coach said.

“The team showed tactical progression from the first match and settled the ball a lot more. The goals were well taken, we had no injuries and we are happy to be through to the semi-finals.

“Somerset are a well-coached team that battled from whistle to whistle. They played a hard match the night before, so I am not sure if they had as much fight as they normally would. Given enough rest the result may have been different.”

It was the second consecutive defeat for Danvers Seymour Jr’s side in the three-team group, following a 3-2 loss to Future Pro on Tuesday.

“Credit to the National Academy Under-17,” Seymour said. “They were really organised and fluent in possession. I’m pleased with how Trojans played in periods of the match, but we weren’t consistent enough throughout the match.”

In group B, the race for the semi-finals is still open with the four teams still in contention. Sao Miguel, from Azores, defeated Bermuda’s Brazilian Football School Select 1-0 to pick up their first win of the competition.

Tonight, BBFS face Dandy Town at 5.30pm before Sao Miguel go up against National Academy Under-15 at 7.15pm.
