Teenage footballer Blayz Borgesson has signed for Burnley.

The 17-year-old winger has signed a deal with the Championship club until the end of season and will join Tony Philliskirk’s under-18 squad after a successful trial.

“It’s a big challenge for me and I can’t wait to get started,” Borgesson said.

“I like to try and attack my full-back and be very direct, with the aim of getting goals and assists. I try and impact the team on the defensive side too.

“On trial I felt like I settled in pretty quickly. The standard and intensity was a lot higher but once I played more games I got used to it. I’m looking forward to testing myself against some of the best players in the country.”

Born and raised in Bermuda, Borgesson describes his love of the game as starting at the age of three or four years old.

After moving to England a decade later, the teenager has been playing in Radcliffe FC’s college programme alongside his studies.

While with the Manchester-based side, Borgesson helped the under-18s reach the first round proper of the FA Youth Cup and he has represented his country under-20 level.

Having been recommended by Clarets Academy coach Frank Sinclair, a former Chelsea defender, he trialled with Philliskirk’s side last season and made seven under-18 Premier League appearances.

Now on the books full-time, he will be aiming to continue his development at Burnley Training Centre.
