Goalkeeper Aiden Jones signs for Morecambe

Goalkeeper Aiden Jones has become the latest young Bermudian to join a leading club in England.

The teenager, who was shortlisted for the goalkeeper of the year award by the Bermuda Football Association when playing for Somerset Trojans at under-13 level in 2022, has signed for Morecambe FC at academy level.

Posting on Instagram, Jones outlined his delight at taking the next step in his nascent career.

“I’m proud to sign my scholarship with Morecambe FC. New beginnings 26/27,” he wrote.

Morecambe FC are based in Lancashire in the north of England and their first team play in the National League North, the sixth tier of English football after they were relegated last year.

The club often punches above its weight in terms of media coverage in the UK, largely thanks to the support of Tyson Fury, the former world heavyweight boxing champion.

Fury is reportedly interested in buying the club after a couple of seasons of decline on the field.
