Nahki Wells has made himself available for the Concacaf Nations League fixtures against Guadeloupe, St Lucia and Barbados.

The Luton Town striker has held discussions with new head coach John Barry Nusum and is looking forward to slipping into a Bermuda shirt again.

“I had a conversation with JB and I told him I haven’t closed that door and I still have interest in representing my country and putting that Bermuda jersey on again,” Wells told The Royal Gazette.

“I just have to see how the next few weeks pan out and what’s going on with my team and make decisions with regard to that.

“But it’s very likely that I will play in some capacity over these set of fixtures that are coming up in September, October and November, so we’ll see.

“It will be really great to represent the country on home soil again; go back out there and still show the country what I can do and play my part.”

The Gombey Warriors start their Nations League B group B campaign against Guadeloupe on September 25 before taking on St Lucia three days later. They then play Barbados on October 2 before closing out the first international window of the season against Barbados on October 5.

The group winners will advance directly to the Gold Cup and also gain promotion to League A. The two best runners-up from the four League B groups will go through to the Gold Cup preliminary round, while the fourth-place finisher will be relegated to League C.

Nusum, who has succeeded Canadian Michael Findlay at the helm, has yet to confirm his squad and coaching staff for the Nations League, which will serve as the qualifier for the 2027 Concacaf Gold Cup.

Under former coach Kyle Lightbourne, Bermuda made their debut at the 2019 Gold Cup, where they bowed out at the group stage after suffering 2-1 defeats by Costa Rica and Haiti before a 2-0 win over Nicaragua capped an outstanding campaign.

Wells is off to a strong start to the season after netting two goals and creating an assists in three appearances for Sky Bet League One side Luton.

He opened his season account in Luton’s 3-0 win over League Two Gillingham in the first round of the Carabao Cup at Kenilworth Road on August 8 and got on the scoresheet again in the Hatters’ 2-2 draw in the league at home to Notts County at the weekend.

“I’m happy to be contributing each game,” Wells said.

“Disappointed that we couldn’t get the win, but it was great to be back home to open our season at Kenilworth Road against a newly promoted side that came to leave with something and they thoroughly deserved a point out of the game.

“We were not at our best, but to leave with something is something we can take huge encouragement from and for myself happy to contribute again.”

The 36-year-old netted ten goals in all competitions last season, which he is hoping to improve upon this term.

“This year it’s about making sure that I can improve my stats, goals and contribution per game,” he said.

“Not just not having good performances, but having the statistics to help back up those performances that I have been having, and I’m sure it’s going to be a great year.”

Wells is now looking forward to the Carabao Cup second round away to Premier League side Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Thursday.

“It’s a competition that we want to try and progress, and we will go there and give it our all and try to leave entering the next stage,” Wells said.

“They need to win and it’s a free hit for us, so I’m looking forward to it.”

Also in Carabao Cup action this week is Nathan Trott’s Cardiff City, who host Championship rivals Norwich City today at Cardiff City Stadium.

Cardiff enjoyed a good run in the competition last season, reaching the quarter-finals where they lost 3-1 at home to Chelsea.
