Fifa president Gianni Infantino spent the weekend visiting Caribbean islands as he continues to persuade various Concacaf members to back him for re-election.

Infantino visited British Virgin Islands, Antigua, St Kitts and Nevis and Jamaica, with those federations in particular seen as key targets after recent statements that seemed to publicly back the under-fire president.

Antigua has a new president in Ickford ‘Nyah’ Roberts, who was elected in May 2026 and has since praised Infantino for his “visionary stewardship that has indelibly reshaped the global football landscape”.

St Kitts and Nevis supported the withdrawal of Infantino’s plan to sell off commercial rights to the World Cup but then vowed to support him in his quest for another term in charge of football’s governing body.

Trinidad and Tobago Football Association president Kieron Edwards has become the latest federation chief to back Gianni Infantino after his visit. Edwards made his position clear in Kingston following Jamaica’s Nations League match against Guatemala on Friday.

“We would have given president Infantino our full support and we have not wavered with that,” said Edwards during an interview in Jamaica.

“Things do come up, changes, you have to have discussions, you have to have dialogue, but these supporters, they are 100 per cent behind the president, always.”

“When it comes to the support of Fifa in terms of growing football, not just in Trinidad and Tobago but across the Caribbean and Concacaf region, it’s been tremendous so far.”

Jamaica Football Federation president Michael Ricketts, who hosted Infantino at the Friday match, also expressed strong support for the FIFA president.

“I think Infantino has done so very well for football, globally, and I remember when I got into football as the president, the support from FIFA was menial, to say the least,” Ricketts.

“It has been a lot better now and we are just very grateful and we are looking forward to further improvement so that we can impact not just football, but the social wellbeing of every boy and girl that plays the sport.”

Infantino’s regional visit also took him to the British Virgin Islands, where he attended the inauguration of a new football pitch and technical centre.

BVI FA president Avanell Morton took the opportunity to back his leadership.

“Well, what more can he do?” Morton said.

“He’s doing a fantastic job already and doing a fantastic job for the entire region. It’s about football and as long as you are about football, then you have the opportunity to make football the priority.”

Infantino views the Caribbean nations within Concacaf as prime recruitment spots for his re-election campaign and to that end has appointed former Manchester City star Gelson Fernandes as his point man in the region.
