Jumaane Davis has been elected as a member of the Bermuda Football Association executive committee.

In the only change to the association’s hierarchy made at the BFA Annual Congress, Davis defeated Vance Campbell in a second round of voting after the two were tied on ten votes from the initial poll at Bermuda College.

Manny Faria, Tashun Simons, Michael Thomas and Shequita Parson were re-elected to serve for a further two years.

First vice-president Shannon Burgess retained his post unchallenged, while no nominations were received for the position of treasurer, which was left vacant following the resignation of Ray Jones in August.

“Football has always been a first love for me as that’s the sport that I played,” Davis told The Royal Gazette.

“In the past year or two, I’ve joined the Somerset Bridge executive and I’m looking to give back to my community.

“The opportunity for this came up and I felt like it would be something that could help the club and make sure that we’re not missing any opportunities that are coming up.”

As one of the founders of the Bermuda Smash Invitational and Carnival in Bermuda, the 45-year-old hopes to bring his experience at organising events to the BFA.

“I’ve got some skills in putting on other events like Bermuda Smash,” he said.

“I was one of the founders of Bermuda Carnival, so I’m looking to give back to my community and make football better for Bermuda.

“I’m bringing a wealth of knowledge in technology and innovation. I have an IT background, so I’ll see if I can bring some innovation to the committee.”

While Campbell served on the compliance and player development committees, his replacement has yet to decide where his focus will lie.

“I’m not sure which sub-committee I’m joining,” Davis added.

“I think I need to talk to some of the other executives and see what I think is a good fit for me.”
