Trott shines as Bluebirds get back to winning ways
Nathan Trott produced two outstanding saves either side of the break to help Cardiff City get back to winning ways in the Sky Bet Championship courtesy of a 5-1 win over visiting Watford on Tuesday.
The Bermudian goalkeeper was called into early action just three minutes into what eventually turned out to be a lopsided contest at Cardiff City Stadium with a fine save to deny Myron Boadu.
The Bluebirds took the lead in the eleventh minute when attacking midfielder Jack Moylan converted from 12 yards after being taken down inside the box.
The Ireland player then doubled Cardiff’s advantage in the 35th minute, this time slotting in off the post on a breakaway after being found in space by forward Cian Ashford’s pass.
The hosts then scored twice inside of four minutes via an own goal by Watford centre back and captain Mattie Pollock and a brilliant left-footed finish by winger Ollie Tanner in first-half stoppage time.
Trott was virtually a spectator throughout the match, but was again equal to the task in the 80th minute with an excellent diving save to deny Watford’s Mali forward Mamadou Doumbia in another one-on-one situation.
However, the 27-year-old was denied a clean sheet after centre back Hector Kyprianou headed home from close range with three minutes remaining to grab a consolation for the visiting side.
Cardiff’s convincing win did not come without a cost as centre back Dylan Lawlor was forced off through injury in the first half.
The result leaves Cardiff eighteenth in the Championship with ten points, two points above the relegation zone.
Trott and his team-mates will look to build on their momentum and make headway in the table away to second-place Middlesbrough at Riverside Stadium on Saturday.
