Bermuda squad named for Under-15 World Cup and Festival
Bermuda’s squad for the inaugural FIFA Under-15 World Cup and Festival in Baku, Azerbaijan, has been announced.
Coached by Aaron Denkins, the 14-member team features several players who have represented the island at youth level in recent years.
Goalkeeper Nuri Latham, who plays for UK Championship side Preston North End’s academy, will share leadership duties with defender De’Ari Trott.
The island’s budding footballers have been drawn in Group AC with British Virgin Islands, Georgia, São Tomé and Príncipe, Namibia and Poland. The competition will feature an innovative eight-a-side format with two 20-minute halves.
Bermuda begin their campaign next Saturday against BVI. They return to action the following day with a double-header, taking on Georgia in the morning before facing São Tomé and Príncipe in the afternoon.
The group stage concludes on October 26, with Bermuda scheduled to face Namibia in the morning and Poland in the afternoon.
Following the completion of the group-stage fixtures, the festival will have a rest day, before the knockout phase gets under way on October 28.
“The Young Gombey Warriors will look to make the most of this international opportunity, as they compete against teams from across the world and proudly represent Bermuda on the global stage,” the Bermuda Football Association said.
