David Jones Jr is feeling inspired after finding the back of the net on six occasions already this season.

The Dandy Town striker scored three goals during the group stage of the Dudley Eve Trophy to help Hornets advance to the semi-finals of the competition.

He then doubled his season tally with a superb hat-trick in the reigning champions’ 7-1 conquest of his former club Young Men’s Social Club in a lopsided Premier Division contest at PHC Field last time out.

Jones was hoping to add to his account heading into the match and is happy to have done just that to help Hornets extend their unbeaten run in all competitions to five games.

“It was good to get a hat-trick. I feel like we went into the game kind of expecting to have a lot of chances to put away and my goal going in was to get a few for the tally,” he told The Royal Gazette.

The 29-year-old scored 22 goals in all competitions, which also included a hat-trick, last season to earn the coveted Golden Boot award in the top flight, and is off to a brilliant start this term with six goals in five league and cup outings to date.

“It’s a great start with six goals in five outings but it’s only the beginning for me,” said Jones, keeping his feet planted firmly on the ground.

“I try not to get too deep into it early on because we do have a whole season ahead of us, and my main goal is always to win than to score the most goals.

“We have to put away our chances; score goals so we can win games and I am the guy that’s supposed to do it. It comes hand-in-hand, but my main goal is to win trophies.”

Jones demonstrated good sportsmanship by muting his goal-scoring celebrations against his former Bluebirds team-mates.

“It was my former team, so I didn’t want to say too much or celebrate too much,” he said.

“They are having problems fielding players and having players in certain positions, so we knew it was going to be a game where we can get our tally up and I could focus on working on my finishing and what not. I feel like I had a few more chances and it could’ve been more, but I’m working on it still.”

Hornets are back in action away to St George’s Colts at Wellington Oval tomorrow, where both teams will be hoping to preserve their unblemished league records to date.

Premier Division action resumes today with Somerset Trojans hosting Paget Lions at Somerset Cricket Club.

Tomorrow’s remaining top flight matchups will see X-Roads Warriors face PHC Zebras at Lord’s, and Devonshire Colts doing battle with Young Men’s Social Club at Police Field.

There are also two First Division games on tap tomorrow, with St David's Warriors locking horns with Wolves at Lord’s and Hamilton Parish hosting Southampton Rangers at Wellington Oval.

All Premier Division matches kick off at 3pm and First Division at 12.30pm.
