Proposal to raise the roof at liquor store

First Prev 1 2 Next Last

A Front Street building could get a major redevelopment with more than a dozen apartments added.

The in-principle application, submitted earlier this month, proposed significant changes to the Frith Building at 57 Front Street and 24 Reid Street.

The Front Street face of the building is expected to remain unchanged with ground-level access to a liquor store and another retail business.

The second and third floor, which will access Reid Street, were listed as commercial space.

The plan suggested the building would continue upwards with four floors of residential space, including four studio apartments, six single-bedroom apartments, one two-bedroom unit and two three-bedroom units.

Underground parking will be created beneath the building with seven car and twelve motorcycle spaces.

Planning documents submitted that the upper four floors of the building would include a series of setbacks to create a staircase-like design, with light wells used to increase the amount of natural light inside the apartments.

It was proposed an elevator would service all the floors, along with two stair cases – one from the basement car park to the third floor and the second to get access to the apartments.
