Walter Roban, the Minister of Home Affairs, has pledged to help rebuild a playground destroyed in a fire last week.

Mr Roban added that he supported the police in their investigation into last Saturday’s blaze at Pig’s Field Park, in Pembroke.

Mr Roban, who is the MP for the constituency, said: “So many neighbourhood children over the years have enjoyed the playground and families continue to do so.

“The field has seen significant community activity and It’s incredibly sad to see what has happened.”

“Of course, we will rebuild and I am hopeful that we will do better than before.

“People in the community have already pledged to support this effort. I will be speaking to Public Works, the department of parks and others in the community on a plan of action.

“I also would appeal to anyone in the private sector who wants to contribute toward the rebuilding of the playground to contact me about assisting.

“Plans will be revealed soon to the community on how they can support the rebuilding effort,”

“It’s a shame what happened and I do support the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service and the Bermuda Police Service conducting an investigation into what happened.”

Police last month assembled a task force to investigate a string of suspicious fires targeting mainly vehicles but also at least two buildings in the parish over the last several weeks.

Minister Roban can be contacted via e-mail at whroban@gmail.com or on 332 3900.
