Property dispute further delays work on Harbour Road

A property dispute and bad weather has further stalled wall repairs on Harbour Road.

While the Ministry of Public Works said the repairs – which started in June – were expected to be completed by early August, the project had encountered a series of snags.

A spokesman said the work, carried out between Highwood Lane and Lover’s Lane in Paget, continues to face “significant delays”.

The spokesman said: “Initial delays resulted from long stretches of bad weather, and the work permitted only during low ocean tides.

“Now over the last month, delays are resulting from a property dispute.

“The management team at Public Works are discussing the matter with the landowners, and following a resolution, the work is expected to continue.”

The spokesman said the project was more than 50 per cent completed despite the delays, but did not give an estimate as to when the work might be completed.

He added: “The Ministry of Public Works apologises for any inconvenience and takes this opportunity to thank the motoring public for their patience and co-operation.”

Government initially announced the project in late May.

At the time, it was expected to take two months, with traffic restricted to a single lane until August 6.

However the Government has sent out further traffic notices about the project in August and September as work continued.
