Clothing, toiletries and household goods will be offered to people in need at a giveaway event this month.

The Grateful Bread will host the event on November 27, two days after the US Thanksgiving celebration.

A spokeswoman said that the City of Hamilton “kindly” gave permission for the community group to set up on the sidewalk outside City Hall on Church Street.

She added: “We plan for volunteers to start to set up at noon and the giveaway will be open to guests 1pm to 5pm on a first come, first served basis, with colour-coded tickets allotted for toiletries etc.”

The spokeswoman said new toiletries such as deodorants, body wash and lotions, toothpaste, toothbrushes, razors, shaving cream and soaps were “gratefully appreciated”.

But she said shampoo was not needed.

The spokeswoman said: “We also wish to give away good quality second hand clothes and shoes, second hand household goods – kitchen items, decorations etc – towels, sheets, pillows, blankets, toys and books.”

Items should be dry, clean and free from mould.

They can be dropped off at the Canterbury Law offices on the third floor of the Swan Building on Victoria Street by November 19.

A rain date of December 4 has been set for the event.
