Two charities have been given a holiday boost from the International Women’s Club.

The IWC donated $9,000 to the Women’s Resource Centre to support its Transformational Living Centre’s education and life skills programme.

The soon-to-be-opened TLC on Parson’s Road, Pembroke, was established to help homeless mothers and their children to get back on track.

Elaine Butterfield, the outgoing executive director of the Women’s Resource Centre, said: “This gift will allow us to support and provide tools to women and their families who are underperforming in life and enable them to not just survive but to thrive.”

The IWC also donated $2,600 to the Bermuda Diabetes Association to support the charity’s educational programmes — particularly cookery demonstrations intended to help mothers make affordable and healthy meals.

Kim Day, the BDA executive director, said that the grant would help to prevent type 2 diabetes in those at risk and help people who already had the condition to manage it.
