Roadworks misery for motorists to continue in January

Work on a wall repair and trenching are expected to continue to affect road users this month, the Government said.

The Ministry of Public Works said Harbour Road, near Lover’s Lane, would be one-way during rush hours because of repairs to a wall.

Harbour Road between Highwood Lane and Lover’s Lane will be open to eastbound traffic only between 7.30am and 9am and westbound traffic will be diverted onto Middle Road.

The section of Harbour road between Chapel Road and Lover’s Lane will only be open to westbound traffic between 4pm and 6pm.

The restrictions expected to remain in force until January 14.

A spokesman for public works said: “The public is advised to take note of this traffic flow change on Harbour Road and to plan using the alternative route listed during the specified time frames.

“Traffic controls will be under direction of the Ministry of Public Works representatives and will be managed through traffic control signage and barricades.

Work to repair the Lover’s Lane stretch of wall on Harbour Road was announced in late May last year and started in June.

The ministry said the job was expected to be completed in August, but bad weather and a property dispute forced a later deadline.

The ministry added trenching work in St George’s near the Bermuda Land Development Company had restarted after the Christmas break and that traffic was reduced to a single lane.

The spokesman said: “The ongoing lane closure on Rose Hill will continue until the trench reaches St. George’s Club private property. Working hours will be from 7am to 6pm from Monday through Saturday.”

He warned: “Trench work should reach 200 feet open section lengths at a time. Motorists are asked to use caution when passing the open trench.”

The work is expected to continue until the end of the month.

The spokesman said wall repairs on a section of Harbour Road near Belmont Road in Warwick also continued and would require the closure of the westbound lane.

Work, which will take place between 7.30am and 6pm, is scheduled to start next Monday and continue to February 11.

Road users should avoid the affected section of Harbour Road in Warwick between Belmont Road and Keith Hall Road and use the Middle Road and South Road detours.
