Arts figures to be honoured at awards ceremony at weekend
Island artists will be celebrated this weekend at the Bermuda Arts Council’s annual awards ceremony.
A spokeswoman for the Ministry of Youth, Culture and Sport said that six Bermudians would be honoured for their contributions to the arts and culture at the event at the Earl Cameron Theatre in Hamilton on Sunday.
Ernest Peets, the culture minister, will present the awards and the Department of Culture will release a tribute video of the recipients online at www.communityandculture.bm.
Dr Peets said: “This occasion is particularly poignant because the arts have suffered tremendously during the last two years of the pandemic.
“However, it’s also an important event in our annual cultural calendar as it is the singular occasion where we recognise the incredible creative talent pulsating through Bermuda.
“It recognises the fruits of the personal, private and public investments made in the arts and the heights we can achieve with persistence, hard work and talent.
“So it’s wonderful that we get to come together to recognise and highlight the importance of art in all its forms during this ceremony.”
