Supermarket floor awash with wine after shelves collapse

First Prev 1 2 Next Last

Repairs were under way yesterday at a Hamilton supermarket after the collapse of shelving in the store’s wine section left the business awash.

Images circulating on social media showed the upper shelving empty of product at The Shopping Centre supermarket on Victoria Street.

The clip appeared to show hundreds of bottles down and many smashed, with the shelving section tipped forward and staff assessing the damage amid puddles of wine.

It was unclear from images when the shelving had come down, and comment was not immediately available from The MarketPlace, which owns the shop.

Floors had been cleared at The Shopping Centre by yesterday afternoon, with workmen securing the racks in the wine section.
