Bermuda was hit with an Islandwide power outage this afternoon, shutting down Hamilton and most of the island.

According to the Belco website, more than 8,000 customers are out with more than 2,000 in Pembroke, 2,000 in Sandys, 1,000 in Devonshire and 1,200 in Smith’s Parish.

Police are trying to get teams on the road to direct traffic.

The power cuts started at 3pm.
