Section of Front Street to be closed for paving work

Beginning on Monday, a section of Front Street’s eastbound lane will be closed to traffic for paving work (File photograph)

A section of the eastbound lane on Front Street will be closed to traffic starting on Monday so that paving can be done, the City announced yesterday.

The closure will be in effect from the Supermart building to Seon Place and work will be done from 6am until 4pm Monday to Friday and is scheduled to be completed by March 10.

No parking will be allowed in the area during this time, except in the Number 8 lot.

All eastbound traffic will be diverted to Court Street, except between 4pm and 6pm, when wardens will manage traffic flow.

This will be the only time of day that westbound traffic will be affected by the closure and motorists are urged to use caution or avoid Front Street whenever possible.

Patrick Cooper, the City’s engineer and chief operating officer, said: “These paving works are necessary to allow for the City to maintain high-quality infrastructure.

“We have purposely scheduled these roadworks to take place during the off season where it has less of an impact on traffic.

“We have also taken into account that conducting these works on the weekend or after hours will cost considerably more.”

Court Street will be the next area of Hamilton that will be partially closed for paving.
